The Churning Sea captures the ocean in a state of restless motion—powerful, unpredictable, and alive. Layers of saturated blues, turquoise, sea greens, and flashes of white collide across the surface, evoking swirling currents, breaking waves, and sunlight catching the water as it rises and falls.
Heavy texture gives the work an almost sculptural quality, allowing the movement of the sea to extend beyond color and become something that can be felt. Circular, overlapping gestures suggest eddies and whirlpools, while deeper passages of navy and near-black create moments of shadow and depth beneath the brighter surface.
Rather than depicting a particular shoreline or wave, The Churning Sea explores the sensation of being surrounded by water in motion—the tension between turbulence and beauty, strength and serenity. From a distance, the composition reads as an expansive field of ocean color; up close, its ridges, crevices, and layered marks reveal an entirely different landscape, inviting the viewer to experience the work through both sight and touch.
